As far as DiS goes, definitely got some stuff that hits the same spot, although some of it is more vibes based rather than strictly sounding similar: -NEDXXX, s/t record. Absolutely fucking insane music. -Trap Them, particularly Crown Feral.
My father is more neutral to it, since he is a professional musician himself, and he appreciates the complexity of the musicianship in the bands I listen to. But the others I mentioned, deadass tried to force me to stop listening to them. (I .If you want to try getting into death metal, give Bolt Thrower a listen. They are classic and very rhythm heavy so it’ll be closer to what you’re used to. Otherwise there’s tons of stuff. I am a huge Maiden and Metallica fan, and fwiw a couple of my other favorite bands are Overkill, Testament, Death, and Dark Tranquillity (esp. earlier .Satan. I believe these guys are the best heavy metal band to exist. An absolute must listen. Gama Bomb. One of the best thrash metal bands, very catchy and kinda silly if I'm being honest. They have loads of humour in their music. Municipal Waste. The very definition of "pizza thrash". Just listen to them and you'll seeFor prog metal I recommend Anubis Gate, Persefone and Ne Obliviscaris. For black metal I'd say Wolves in the Throne Room. They were my graduation present almost 10 years ago (originally for EDM) and still sound great! They really do symphonic metal justice in a way that my tv’s speakers just can’t. They’re too loud/boom-y for regular use in my current apartment though, so these days I .I don't listen much to Nirvana for example as it's just too whiny now as a middle aged man. I still listen to my favorite AC/DC album (If You Want Blood You Got It) and psychedelic trance is always a hoot. But I also listen to a lot of stuff that I "hated" as a teenager like rap, country music, classical, jazz, mainstream pop, folk music, and more.
Throwing in a shout out for a few pieces of interesting media for folks who want to learn more about dm! Last Podcast on the Left has a whole series about the Norwegian Death Metal murders.worth a listen. And the documentary 'Until the Light Takes Us' was interesting. If anyone has other suggestions I'd love to watch or listen to them!
I still listen to a lot of 80s thrash, 90s groove metal and alt-metal, some of the nu metal bands (deftones, slipknot), and some other more modern metal bands even though a lot of those albums are 10ish years old at this point. Edit: I'll add that Mr. Bungle put out a thrash album this year that is pretty good. Check it out if you are so inclined.

A lot of what you listed I like a lot (Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, BMTH etc) but it's definitely dying out. The modern day "rockstars" are more rappers like Lil Uzi Vert. They still have that teenage angst element but in a way that is easier to listen to (probably because the 808s in hip hop give the heavier kick without being too overwhelming).Yeah, maybe it's an age thing. I'm in my 40s. Used to listen to mostly thrash and death metal. Still do, but I also listen to a lot of jazz and classical and other stuff these days. Right now, the new single from John Williams and Yo-Yo Ma is in heavy rotation, for example.
Most of my friends still listen to metal, the only difference is that very few of us still ONLY listen to metal. We all listen to a massive variety of music covering the whole spectrum. I do see people who exclusively listen to metal as a little immature, but that's purely because there is so much good music out there that they refuse to listen .When I have kids one day, Im still going to listen to my music. If my kids want to listen to something else, I'll definitely let them listen to whatever they want sometimes, but they're still going to have to listen to metal from time to time too. Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin, or Stained Class. Metal Church - Metal Church. I would have also added: W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P. or The Last Command. I believe its possible for someone to find an artist or song they like from any genre, and I think its really cool when I see some death metal and black metal right next to the most recent yeat album in .I still found ways to listen to the music I loved and needed, but still, it sucked for a while. After a month or so they forgot about the ban on metal, but my mental health did take a huge dive when they did that. Now they’ve given up trying to control what I listen to, although they still tell me to turn it down constantly!
Obviously a question for the metal people here lol. I got into metal a year or so ago and I'm trying to discover more bands all the time even though I'm not keeping up lol. I read Hammer of the Gods back in the day, but I loved Zeppelin II anyway. We gave them a pass. We enabled that stuff, and I feel bad about it. And so much as I love classic rock, I mostly don’t listen to it anymore.Same, but I understand. I'm happy they still put out music though. I remember finding them on the Xbox Live music video section around 10 years ago. I was browsing and I think the thumbnail for "Awake" caught my eye or something so I decided to check it .

My parents thought they were a heavy metal band when i first got into the GD. For many when they see numerous skulls and skeleton logos they equate that with metal.
